H.H. Dalai Lama is the Head of all 4 Schools. Each school has a leader of their own. There are Gelugpa, Kagyudpa, Sakyapa and Nyingmapa. Each have undersections. That makes it so puzzling. But they all are based on the common word of Lord Buddha. There may be differences in ritual and appearance, but not in the basic philosophy.
